Material number: 1.4125
Standard EN: X105CrMo17, AISI 440C
Re-melting: ESR
Machinability: up to satisfactory
Hardening capability: up to 60 HRc
Polishing ability: adapted for mirror polishing
Corrosion resistance: satisfactory in the hardened polished
and passivized condition
Magnetism: magnetic
Uses: medical, surgical and dental
instruments

Special features and main characteristics: Hardenable, corrosion-resistant steel with high wear resistance and adequate cutting hardness. Due to its higher carbon content, it surpasses Chronifer Labor M-13 in terms of cutting strength due to increased hardness acceptance. However, machinability is greatly restricted. Conversely, corrosion resistance to water and steam is excellent. The consistently applied ESU process increases the steel’s purity and homogeneity, thus enhancing the corrosion resistance of this high-quality steel.
Application and intended use: Cutting tools and highly wear-resistant parts in the medical and dental industry. The chemical analysis is approximately in line with the instrument standard ASTM F-899 (except for the Mo content, which is higher in Chronifer M-17B and therefore positively affects corrosion resistance).
